SEIU Minnesota State Council Endorse Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey for Re-Election

The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Minnesota State Council is proud to announce the endorsement of Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey for re-election.

MINNEAPOLIS – The Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Minnesota State Council is proud to announce the endorsement of Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey for re-election. The Union represents nearly 10,000 healthcare workers, school employees, janitors, security officers and more who live or work in Minneapolis. SEIU members have worked with Mayor Frey in his time on the Council and as Mayor to increase the city’s minimum wage, pass policies like earned sick and safe time and wage theft prevention, support the Downtown Workers’ Council and new community safety initiatives, and more.

Jamie Gulley, the president of SEIU Healthcare Minnesota and the SEIU Minnesota State Council, shared why the union is supporting Mayor Frey:

“SEIU is proud to support Mayor Frey for re-election because of the Mayor’s consistent support when SEIU members have fought at City Hall to improve the lives of working people and to bring racial justice to the city of Minneapolis. Because Mayor Frey has joined with low-wage workers and union members fighting on issues like raising wages, increasing workplace protections and bringing workers’ voices into City Hall, we are excited to endorse and support his re-election,” said Gulley. “Our union believes that no matter your race, income or zip code, we all deserve to be able to live safe, happy and healthy lives. This last year – with the murder of George Floyd and the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on low-wage workers and communities of color – shows we still have much work to do to make this a reality. We look forward to working with Mayor Frey and council members over the coming years to make the real, systemic change needed so everyone in Minneapolis – no exceptions – can thrive.”
